Hospice Care Increases Quality & Length of Life

The National Hospice and Palliative Care Association had a study published in the March edition of the Journal of Pain and Symptom Management that further documents the fact that hospice patients live longer than those who do not elect hospice. The full article is available for free on the NHPCO website.

I wrote this post in 2004 after a similar study came out with similar results, and still agree with my thoughts then.

Electing hospice care is not the same as giving up. It is a decision to make the most out of the time you have left. Once that decision is made, hospice surrounds you and your family with the expertise and love necessary to LIVE life with your illness. Is there any doubt that most people actually thrive in that environment?
